Police nab four on DWI in Sobriety Checkpoint

Four drivers were arrested on DWI charges in a weekend "Sobriety Checkpoint" conducted by state and local police on Route 3.

Two other people were charged with transportation of alcohol by a minor and transportation and possession of marijuana.

Police stopped about 170 cars and trucks in four hours, between 10 p.m. Saturday and 2 a.m. Sunday, near the Golden Pond Country Store.

Anyone not impaired continued through the checkpoint after producing a driver's license and motor vehicle registration. Police said the operation was conducted safely and did not cause any traffic tie-ups on Rte 3.

Arrested for DWI were Frank Obin, 50, Weymouth, Mass.; John Garofola, 24, of Rochelle, NY; Craig Dietrich, 36, of Cumberland, Ontario, and Rodney Tucciarone, 42, of North Babylon, NY.

Leana Maher, 20, of North Hampton, was charged with transportation of alcohol by a minor while Mathew Sanchez, 19, of Plymouth, was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled drug (marijuana) and having an open container in a motor vehicle.

All six are to be arraigned in Plymouth District Court on July 23.

Police said more checkpoints will be conducted in Holderness given the high number of impaired drivers arrested this weekend.
